Temporary and permanent sewer diversion including 3.6m diameter shaft and 1200mm pipe jack
Engineering Excellence in the Heart of Paddington
Browne was appointed to deliver the permanent diversion of the London Street Sewer for the Paddington Square development, located next to Paddington Station and the Bakerloo Line. Working in a constrained site with complex utilities and ground conditions, Browne maintained progress in a live construction environment.
A phased approach began with a temporary diversion, including a 9m-deep shaft, 1200mm pipe jack, and timber heading. This enabled construction of the permanent sewer in a 10m-deep reinforced corridor, with a 2m x 2m heading for final installation. The project was delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring adapted practices to maintain safety and productivity.
